UPSC Civil Services Examination 2023 Cut-off Marks Announced: Lowest in Five Years

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) releases the cut-off marks for the Civil Services Examination 2023, with the general category having a cut-off of 953

The cut-off list for the Civil Services Examination of 2023 has been made public by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The minimal qualifying standards/marks obtained by the last recommended applicant in various categories at various stages are listed below.

The official announcement posted on the website states that 953 is the CS (final) cut-off for the general category. It is 923 for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category, 919 for the Other Backward Class (OBC), 890 for the Scheduled Castes (SC), 891 for the Scheduled Tribe (ST), 894 for the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD-1), 930 for the PwBD-2, 756 for the PwBD-3, and 589 for the PwBD-5.

In the CS (Prelim), the general category cut-off in 2023 is 75.41, for the EWS category, it is 68.02, for OBC it is 74.75, for SC it is 59.25 and for ST it is 47.82, for PwBD-1 it is 40.40, for PwBD-2 it is 47.13, for PwBD-3 it is 40.40, and PwBD-5 it is 33.68.

However, the Cut-off for CS (Prelim) for the general category 2023 is lower than 88.22 in 2022 and 87.54 in 2021. It is the lowest cut-off in the past five years.

The cut-off for UPSC (Main) exam is 741 for the general category, for the EWS category it is 706, for OBC it is 712, for SC it is 694, for ST it is 692, for PwBD-1 it is 673, 718 for PwBD-2, 396 for PwBD-3, and 445 for PwBD-5.

Cut-off marks for Prelims and Mains are based on GS Paper-I only. GS Paper-II was of a qualifying nature with 33% marks as per Rule 15 of the Civil Services Examination, 2023. Subject to 10% marks in each of the seven competitive papers that is Essay, GS-I, GS-II, GS-III, GS-IV, Optional-I and Optional-II.

In case of tie

Wherever two or more candidates have secured equal aggregate marks in the CSE Exam, 2023, the tie(s) have been resolved in accordance with the principles approved by the Commission, viz.

1. Candidates securing more marks in the Compulsory Papers and the Personality Test (interview round) put together are to be ranked higher.
2. In case where the marks mentioned at (i) above are equal, the candidate senior in age is to be ranked higher.

(Compulsory Papers include Essay, General Studies-I, General Studies-II, General Studies-III and General Studies-IV.)
