Nursery Admission 2024-25: Delhi Schools Announce First Merit List

Approximately 1,800 private schools in Delhi unveil the initial admission lists and waiting lists for nursery, kindergarten, and Class 1.

On January 12, about 1,800 private schools in Delhi revealed their initial list of selected names, as well as a waiting list, for admission to nursery, kindergarten, and Class 1. The admissions process, which began on November 23, is scheduled to finish on March 8.

If numerous students received the same grade, schools held a random drawing. Distance from the school, past attendance by sibling or parent, gender, special needs, and children of single parents are among the entrance criteria for nursery, kindergarten, and Class 1.

The lot drawing was recorded, and the material will be kept and stored by the schools. The slips are shown to the parents before being placed in the box. For entrance into pre-school (nursery), pre-primary (KG) and Class-1, the minimum age as on March 31 should be three years, four years and five years respectively, according to the Directorate of Education.

Pre-school, pre-primary, and Class-1 are entry-level classrooms, with entrance age limits of less than four, five, and six years, respectively.

The Directorate of Education Delhi (DoE) has instructed that the number of seats at the entry levels not be fewer than the greatest number of seats in entry-level courses over the previous three years — 2021-22, 2022-23, and 2023-24.

Between January 13 and 22, the Department of Education will also give an opportunity for parents to resolve any questions they may have about the allocation of points to their wards for the first list by writing, email, or spoken engagement.

On January 29, the second list of selected children, including the waiting list, will be made accessible, along with the scoring system's assigned marks. To choose students, schools shall create and implement admission standards that are fair, reasonable, well-defined, equitable, non-discriminatory, obvious and transparent.

Delhi State Public School’s Management Association president RC Jain told PTI that around 200 schools have issued their final merit list and will not be issuing a second list or a waiting list. “Most of the top schools of Delhi usually do not issue a second list or a waiting list. There are around 200 such schools who have issued their final merit list today. They will not issue a second list for admissions,” Jain told PTI.

“No school shall adopt a criterion abolished by the department including charging a capitation fees or donations. Pre-schools or montessori schools run by registered societies or Trusts as branches of recognised unaided schools will have to follow a single admission process for their pre-school and main school considering them as one institution,” an official statement said.
