The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is introducing an industry-focused Web-Enabled MTech in E-Mobility (WEMEM) for professionals in order to expedite the development of human resources in this field.
Highlighting the need for this programme, Prof V Kamakoti, director of IIT Madras, said, “Participants of these programmes and the automotive industry have been asking for an MTech programme as a natural follow-up.” This degree programme, offered through IIT Madras’ Centre for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE), has been designed to meet academic rigour while orienting the participants toward practice. The Department of Engineering Design, IIT Madras, is coordinating WEMEM.
Further, Prof Prathap Haridoss, dean, Academic Courses, IIT Madras, said, “WEMEM has been carefully structured to meet the academic credit requirements of an MTech degree from IIT Madras. This includes core and elective theory courses, labs, and projects. In line with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), we have also enabled an intermediate exit in the form of a Post Graduate Diploma in E-Mobility.”
The programme would run over seven academic terms, with up to three academic terms in a calendar year. The first batch will start at the beginning of September, and the participants will be selected based on a Test on fundamental Mathematics and Physics Principles.
Prof Karthick Athmanathan, Professor of Practice, IIT Madras, and Advisor, WEMEM said, “WEMEM is structured to offer the required flexibility to professionals while ensuring the quality of an IIT Madras MTech. Considering the work-related commitments of participants, they would need to attend live classes with faculty on Saturdays.”
May 26 2024 is the last date to register for the batch starting in September 2024. The Program Brochure can be accessed at https://code.iitm.ac.in/assets/wbmt/Brochure.pdf.
