CUET-UG 2022: Check the FAQs on Eligibility, Application Process & More

New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) made the Central University Test (CUET) necessary for the Undergraduate admission at any of the 45 Central Universities in the country. This announcement was made on April 2022. All 45 Central Universities are now required to use CUET, a redesigned version of CUCET. This change took place since the launch of new National Education Policy (NEP), that supports the requirement of an entrance exam for university admissions. The candidates who want to apply for CUET can check the official website cuet.nta.nic.in.

Exam dates for CUET-UG 2022?

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced that the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), will be administered between July 15 and August 10. Date of the examinations are July 15, July 16, July 19, July 20, and August 4, August 5, August 6, August 7, and August 8. Candidates will have to answer multiple choice questions (MCQs) in a computer-based test.

If a candidate has submitted the form, will he/she be allowed to correct details at a later stage?

Candidates will not be allowed to make any changes to the mobile number, email ID and the address that they have submitted in the application during registration. However, they will be allowed to alter the following details including class 10 details, class 12 details, exam centre city selection, medium of the exam, date of birth, gender and category.

How many students will appear for CUET-UG 2022?

Over 9,50,804 applications of interested candidates have been received for CUET-UG 2022 for admission across 86 universities for admission. Among the applications, 43 of central universities, 13 state universities, 12 deemed universities and 18 private universities make up the remainder. Consequently, CUET is has now become the second-largest admission exam in the nation for undergraduate programmes, after the NEET UG medical entrance exam.

What will be the format of the exam?

There will be three sections to the CUET 2022. Language proficiency will get tested in Sections I (IA and IB), core topic knowledge will get tested in Section II and general knowledge will get tested in Section III of the examination. Given below are detailed explanation of the three sections-

Section 1

The first section of the CUET is divided into two categories- IA and IB.  A candidate’s command of English or one of 12 Indian languages—Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Urdu, Assamese, Bengali, Punjabi, or Odia—will be tested in Section IA. The examination will last for 45 minutes.

Section IB lists 19 undergraduate degree programmes in foreign languages that various Central Universities offer. Among the offered languages are Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Tibetan, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Arabic, Bodo, Dogri, Maithili, Manipuri, Santhali, Kashmiri, among others.

Section 2

In Section 2, a candidate’s knowledge of the fundamental disciplines that they want to study at the undergraduate level will be evaluated. In accordance with this, they can choose up to six subjects from a list of 27 including Accountancy/Book Keeping, Biology/ Biological Studies/Biotechnology/Biochemistry, Business Studies, Chemistry, Computer Science/ Informatics Practices, Economics/Business Economics, Engineering Graphics, Entrepreneurship, Geography/Geology, History, Home Science, Knowledge Tradition and Practices of India, Legal Studies, Environmental Science, Mathematics, Physical Education/NCC /Yoga, Physics etc.

In the Section 2, which is also 45 minutes long exam, a candidate must attempt 40 out of 50 questions.

Section 3

For any undergraduate program that is being offered by universities where a general exam is being used for admission rather than admitting students based on their scores on domain subjects, Section 3 of the CUET will be executed. Candidates who desire to enrol for any such course will be the only ones who will have to take this. The exam, which will last an hour, will test candidates’ general knowledge, current events knowledge, general mental capacity and numerical skills. Through the straightforward application of fundamental mathematical ideas from arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and measurement taught up to Class 8. It will also assess quantitative reasoning.

There will be 75 questions on this paper, 60 of which must be answered.

Will there be negative marking scheme in CUET 2022? 

Yes, there will be negative marking for incorrect answers. A wrong response will result in a mark being subtracted. No points are deducted for not responding to a question.

Who all can take CUET-UG 2022?

The CUET exam will be open to all students who pass their class 12 examinations from any recognised institution or Board. According to the National Testing Agency (NTA), if a university allows former class 12 students to enrol in the current academic year, those students would also be qualified to take the CUET 2022. Neither the UGC nor the NTA have specified an age restriction for the entrance exam. Candidates are urged to get in touch with the university of their choice for more information on age requirements.

Which universities will admit candidates through the CUET?

All the Central Universities will admit candidates through the CUET 2022. A total of 44 Universities including BHU, JNU, Central Sanskrit University, University of Delhi, will admit candidates on the basis of their CUET 2022 score for the academic year 2022-23.

What is the medium of examination for the CUET 2022?

The Tests (other than 'Language Test') are offered in 13 languages namely English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.

Where can one direct their queries/ clarifications regarding CUET 2022?

Candidates can direct their queries/ clarifications regarding CUET 2022 at https://cuet.samarth.ac.in/ or contact 011- 40759000 / 011-69227700.

What should one carry along with them to the examination center?

The candidates should necessarily carry the following to the examination hall:

  • Admit card along with Self Declaration (Undertaking) downloaded from the NTA Website (a clear printout on A4 size paper) duly filled in.
  • A simple transparent Ballpoint Pen 
  • Additional photograph (same as uploaded on the Online Application Form) to be pasted on the attendance sheet in the examination Room/ Hall. 
  • An authorized photo ID (original, valid, and non-expired) such as School Identity Card/ PAN card, Driving License, Voter ID, Passport, Aadhaar Card, etc..
  • PwBD certificate issued by the authorized medical officer, if claiming the relaxation under PwBD category 

In addition, the candidate may carry the following:

  • Personal hand sanitizer (50 ml) 
  • Personal transparent water bottle 
  • Sugar tablets/fruits in case the candidate is diabetic.

How to get the CUET Admit Card 2022?

The candidates must download the CUET Admit Card from the official website cuet.nta.nic.in. The applicants must carry a print out of the same to the examination center. The candidates must keep in mind that the admit card will not be sent by post or given at the examination center.

 Is CUET (UG) - 2022 compulsory for admission to any Central University?

Yes, CUET (UG) - 2022 is made mandatory for candidates aspiring to get admission in any Central University for the 2022-23 academic year. Admission to all Central Universities will be on the basis of NTA Score obtained in CUET (UG) - 2022. 

Can a candidate be able to submit their Test and move to the next Test, in case he/she wants to, before the duration of that test expires?

No, candidates cannot submit the ongoing Test and move to the next Test until the set duration of the test is over. Each of the tests is distinct and the system will not allow you to submit the paper, before the duration of the paper expires.

Does a candidate need to specify his/her preference for the Universities I am selecting while filling the application form?

No, the applicants are required to submit only one application, even if they are applying for more than one course/test.

What documents or certificates are to be uploaded at the time of submitting the Application Form? 

The applicants need to submit the following documents at the time of submitting the application form:

  • A recent scanned photograph 
  • Scanned signature
  • Respective certificates for PwD/Category/BPL/Class X/XII Equivalence Certificate), if required.

Will there be a Skill Test if I qualify the CUET 2022?

The Skill Test may be conducted by the universities for certain subjects like Dance, Music and Theater.

Does a candidate need to submit multiple applications if I am applying for multiple universities?

No, the applicants must submit only one application, even if they apply for more than one University or Participating Institution. 

CUET-UG 2022 application started on April 6, 2022  and the last date to apply for the examination was May 22, 2022.
