The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has introduced the 'AICTE-VAANI' scheme to encourage the use of Indian regional languages in technical edu
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has launched a new scheme ‘AICTE-VAANI’ to promote Indian regional languages among faculty members and students to ensure an effective teaching-learning process.
AICTE Chairman Prof TG Sitharam and Padma Shri awardee and chairman of the High Powered Committee for the Promotion of Indian Languages Chamu Krishna Shastry inaugurated VAANI, which stands for Vibrant Advocacy for Advancement and Nurturing of Indian Languages, at AICTE headquarters in New Delhi today.
The project would provide financial assistance to AICTE-approved institutions for hosting conferences/seminars/workshops lasting at least two days and up to three days in growing areas of technical education in twelve regional languages.
The plan would financially sponsor a maximum of 100 conferences per year, with each conference receiving Rs 2 lakh. The 100 conferences will consist of eight conferences in each regional language (Gujarati, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Punjabi, Bengali, Kannada, Assamese, Malayalam, Odia, and Urdu) and 12 conferences in Hindi. Overall, an amount of Rs 2 crore will be reimbursed by AICTE annually under the scheme.
The 12 emerging fields under the scheme for organizing conferences/seminars/workshops include ‘Advanced Materials, Rare earth & critical minerals, Semiconductor, Space and Defence, Blue Economy, Energy, Sustainability & Climate Change, Advanced Computing (Supercomputing, AI, Quantum Computing), Next Gen Communications, Smart Cities & Mobility, Aggrotech & Food processing, Health Care & Med-Tech, Disaster Management & Resilient Infrastructure and Manufacturing & Industry 4.0.
“The scheme will help in creating a knowledge base in the local language and will encourage the creation of a treasure of latest technical knowledge incorporating the newest developments in regional languages,” said Prof TG Sitharam. “This scheme will also promote the promotion of the research papers in the regional languages and further enhance the collaboration between institutions and industry,” he added.
Chammu K Shastry said, “The scheme will remove the dilemma regarding giving preference to only English language rather than vernacular languages. The importance of regional languages or mother tongues in education will ensure cultural diversity of the nation.”
Applications for AICTE-approved institutions are open till April 10, 2024. The institutions will be selected based on the parameters outlined by AICTE available at https://www.aicte-india.org/. On being selected, the AICTE will provide approval to the institutions for hosting the seminars/workshops/conferences.
