Respected Prof. Dr Sunil K Somani is an honour graduate in Mechanical Engineering from Indira Gandhi Government Engineering College, Sagar, (MP) Post Graduate in Design Engineering from the College of Engineering, (Pune) followed by a Doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Devi Ahilya University, Indore, (MP).

Prof. Somani is the Vice-Chancellor of Oriental University, Indore. Before this, he was the founder and Vice-Chancellor of Medi-Caps University with a demonstrated growth history of working in the higher education & management industry. 

Prof. Somani is having strong educational and professional skills in academic & general administration, Curriculum development, Budgeting, Design, Negotiation, Counselling, Security analysis, and Computer-Aided Design (CAD).

He Possesses extensive experience of 30 years in teaching and industry at Pune-North Maharashtra-Devi Ahilya-Rajiv Gandhi  Technical-Medi-Caps University, Khimline Pumps, Gajra Group, Graybar Design etc. His  Administrative experience in various capacities includes Vice-Chancellor, Director,  Principal, HOD etc. Due to such a vast experience, his contribution to making Medi-Caps University the top private university in Central India is much appreciated. Now he is transforming Oriental University, Indore to a new level.  

His research areas are design, CAD, Technical Analysis & Solar Energy. He has guided 5-PhD scholars and more than 100 undergraduate and postgraduate projects as a research guide.

He has more than 80-publications in various International &  National Journals and Conferences. He has three books to his credit, One book (Adapted copy) entitled Machine Design – Schaum’s Outline Series – Tata McGraw Hills, another (Co-authored) authorised basic mechanical engineering – Dhanpat Rai publication and third  Innovation for Sustainability in Engineering and Management – Woven World publications. He also has organised various national conferences, All India seminars, National workshops, symposiums etc. in various capacities sponsored by Deptt. of Science & Technology, HRD, CSIR New Delhi, M.P. Council of Science & Technology Bhopal (M.P.). Being a life member of various professional bodies, viz. IE (India), AMM, ISTE, MPCA,  AICCF, CCAI FELA etc., his contribution is well acknowledged in the world of professionals. Apart from academics, he is also an international chess player and a coach.

He has represented  India in the Correspondence Chess Olympiad & participated at State, National and Inter-varsity levels. He was MP State Junior Chess Champion and was aboard “A” player of the Inter-varsity Runner team of Dr H.S. Gaur University, Sagar. He was also the India Champion of the All India Correspondence Chess Federation.
